MULTI JET FUSION
Multi Jet Fusion is a 3D printing technology used by HP. It utilises a fine grained powder that allows for ultra thin layers to be printed. First the a thin layer of the powder is spread over the build platform where it is heated to a near sintering temperature. A carriage with inkjet nozzles (which are similar to the nozzles used in desktop 2D printers) passes over the bed, depositing fusing agent on the powder. At the same time a detailing agent jets around the contours of the object to improve resolution.
High powered lamps then pass over the surface of the powder bed sintering the area where the fusing agent was dispensed while leaving the rest of the powder unaltered. The process repeats until the parts are complete. The printed parts are encapsulated in powder and need to cool down before they can be removed.
Parts that are printed in this technology have high density and low pororsity with exceptionally smooth surface finish straight out of the printer, and functional parts that need minimal post-production finishing.

forward Surface finishing and Post Processing: Unfinished parts typically have a smooth surface without visible layers in a stone grey color. MJF parts can be sandblasted and colored.
